Answer: Fraxel Restore Laser

Sebaceous Hyperplasia are benign or noncancerous “bumps” or growths found on the forehead and cheeks of middle-aged individuals. These lesions have a yellowish or white color with a central indentation, permitting a dermatologist to make a diagnosis. This condition can make one appear older than their actual age. I have found in my 20 years of experience with the Fraxel Laser that it is an effective treatment. Often this condition can be overlooked by doctors. Here is where cosmetic dermatology can be interventional.

Answer: Pulse dye laser

Whatever you call them, Broken capillaries, Facial veins, Telangiectasias, red spots, they require lots of coverup. The incidence is very high in people of Northern European descent, although I have seen it in other populations. An association exists with rosacea. I often joke with my patients that Santa Claus, who appeared with rosy cheeks, had a severe variation of this condition.

The good news is that we have a painless pulse dye laser at Park Slope Dermatology to zap away these superficial meddlesome vessels, with a clinical outcome of clear skin. We focus on aftercare to pamper the skin to achieve perfection. Often, patients do need multiple treatments.

Answer: Combination Peels and Medical Therapy

This condition is called Tinea Versicolor. T.V. is often seen in people who have oily skin, or over secretion of the pilo-sebacceous unit associated with over production of yeast, or excessive sweating, for example, in teenagers, young adults, athletes, and pregnant women. There is a genetic predisposition and it is not contagious. It is often seen on the chest, back, arms, and shoulders. It is often ignored by clinicians since it is considered more cosmetic but it is quite bothersome to many, especially to teenagers, affecting one’s confidence. In my 21 years of practice in dermatology, this is a common medical condition that I have encountered where cosmetic therapy works.

Answer: Fraxel Restore Laser and Virtue RF

As you can see the aging process has been blunted and dramatically reversed. Overall, the dull, lackluster appearance of the face is gone and replaced by a younger, brighter, tighter appearance. There is a market reduction in the periorbital hollowing; the creases are filled in, resulting in tightening. The forehead lines have been eradicated, as well as crows feet and softening of lip lines. Volume loss, jowls, and sagging in the cheek and jawline are much better due to the awakening of collagen producing cells, leading to increased elastin and collagen. For patients who want an alternative to injectables, Fraxel Re:store Laser and Virtue RF are the way to go.

The visits by male patients comprise 3% of my patient population. I would like to change this statistic to a higher number. Often, men are sent by significant others. In this case, this middle-age man thought he was looking aged. Just by simply excising skin tags, his results were dramatic. I call this the clean-up visit. This is a cosmetic procedure, not covered by insurance. We do offer CareCredit to ease the cost(s) of the visit.
